The Kerela Story Movie Review

Our main character is Shalini Unnikrishnan, who has changed her name to Fathima because she became a Muslim. As she tried to get away from ISIS, she was caught by international troops. In the movie, Shalini’s confession is shown. In it, she talks about how she was made to believe in Allah and then used in the holy war.

When making a movie based on a true story, you need to do real study. The people who made the movie don’t even know the most basic things about Kerala. I’m pretty sure that the film’s creative director and producer, Vipul Amritlal Shah, who also helped write it, has never been to Kasargod. Even in movies by Senna Hegde and Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval, Kasargod was never this green. As a Hindu, Shalini always has Jasmine flowers in her hair, even when she’s just wearing a t-shirt and jeans at home. The opening scene was obviously set in a temple, and then it showed a picture of the backwaters and Kathakali. In recent years, Hollywood has been more careful about how it shows India. But Bollywood is still stuck in that Yenna Rascala way of thinking, whether it’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan or The Kerala Story. And why is a girl from Ernakulam telling girls from Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram about the geography of her town? I guess to make things easier for the viewers in mind.

The Kerela Story Review

After repeating this stupid stereotype about South Indians with a fake accent, they try to get to the main part of the movie. I’m not saying that there aren’t any religious fanatics in Kerala. But if you want to prove that, you should write in a way that makes sense instead of giving your main characters half the IQ of the normal person. When Shalini and Geetanjali become obsessed with what Asifa says about Hell, I wonder if they really passed a real test to get into nursing school. The way people are portrayed is so funny that calling it brainwashing might hurt the brain.

They have obviously talked to some of the victims, and the movie shows a clip from one of those talks. And there is a movie version of a victim who says, “Please believe this story, even though there is no proof.” The Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandi, told the assembly that 2,667 people picked Islam as their religion between 2006 and 2012. The people who made it rounded it up to 3200, and that was per year. Multiply that by 10, and you get 32,000. Have a character say that “factual” number with tears in her eyes; that’s how you sell a lie effectively. If Joseph Goebbels was still alive, I’m sure he would have kissed Sudipto and Vipul Shah for making Kozhikode look like Karachi and Malappuram look like Kabul.

The Kerela Story Review

Adah Sharma gives a terrible performance. Her annoying innocence and fake South Indian accent make her hard to stand. Whoever decided to have them randomly say Malayalam words in the middle of a Hindi talk made a terrible choice. Geetanjali is played by Siddhi Idnani, and she also has trouble making the character’s change seem real. Asifa, played by Sonia Balani, is meant to be smart and sly, and her plan of action might make you laugh even if you don’t like Muslims.
