Thor: Love and Thunder is a mess that doesn’t matter. With a rock n’ roll soundtrack and a multitude of beloved stars, Thor: Love and Thunder was poised to be a victory lap for Taika Waititi. With Thor: Ragnarok, Waititi gifted us a humorous hunk who made hearts (and groins) burn. With Thor: Love and Thunder, he promises more than that, but squeezes out an epic romance, filling the film with modal moments that feel rushed and unresolved, and are never truly memorable. Don’t give punchlines. In the end, Love and Thunder is raucous, flashy and empty, not satisfyingly funny.

We join Thor (Chris Hems worth) in the middle of an existential crisis, completely unimpressed by his relationship with Jane Foster (Natalie Port man). The hammer-wielding Guardian with an oddly Ox bridge accent is moonlighting with Guardians of the Galaxy. When Thor defeated a swarm of alien hell-owls on a flying bike, but destroyed a crystal temple, he was there to protect the prestigious institution, while he was congratulating himself, much in his loud voice. Good work. And makes you wonder if a moment of satirical political commentary has popped into the script.
