There are many myths around whether or not Udham Singh was really at Jallianwala Bagh when the tragedy took place. Shoojit Sircar paints the most grievous scenario of what it would’ve been, as Udham Singh filters out those who are still alive from the sea of dead bodies to save them whilst looking for his lady love. Ritesh Shah’s dialogues such as “Ek wahi bass apni thi, phir sab apne ho gaye” (At first, only she was mine but suddenly everyone was) leave a stunning impact without going overboard.

Shantanu Moitra’s uninterrupted background score shines in the second half for obvious reasons you’ll realise after watching. Thankfully, there’s not a single song making it a tougher feat to achieve for Moitra (and he does).
All said and done, Shoojit Sircar makes a poignant point by plotting a heroic tale without making it just about the hero, focusing on his ideology of destroying imperialism to attain freedom using his ways. It not just informs you about a tragedy but also gives you a closure that is neither Black nor White.
Sardar Udham 1st Day Box Office Collection
Film that has been made with a big budget with over 65 crores for sure. The early reports of this film is quite positive and many are praising this film for good production design and performance.
The collections of day 1 could have been around 7 to 8 crore in normal scenario. In such tough times, when Maharashtra theaters are just opening, if this film would have released in such time in theaters, it could have managed 4 to 5 crores nett collection on day 1.
This periodic saga is a perfect film for silver screens and audience would have been blown to see the 1930’s era on a big screens. The first weekend collections of Sardar Udham could have been 18 to 20 crores in first weekend. On this tough condition, Sardar Udham could have only managed 14 to 15 crores maximum.
