Heavy rainfall, lightning, damaging winds and large hailstones are on the way for Sydney, Wollongong, the Central Coast and Newcastle.

In a severe storm cautioning issued at around 4.30pm on Thursday, the Bureau of Meteorology cautioned of blaze flooding dangers throughout the following a few hours in Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Orange and Goulburn.
